HI! I’m Kate, an illustrator who goes by Party Krill.
This is a project about holding onto our wonder.
PROJECT INSPIRATION
Like you, I often use the internet to satisfy brief curiosities. But I find myself feeling unsatisfied, overwhelmed, or unable to hold onto my search results. Instead of searching all the many, many questions I have, I am recording the majority of those "wonders" and using them to inspire a series of illustrations. These questions range from silly to informational to big-picture. A few examples: What's the deal with Boxing Day? Do people who've had near-death experiences report similar smells? What’s the connection between dopamine and irritability? How bad is weed and feed? With these collected curiosities and illustrations in hand, I’ll be popping up in the Spokane community in 2026 to connect with people about curiosity.

BOOK
We invite you to submit 3-5 poems or a piece of short prose (500 words) inspired by curiosity or wonder. You can use any of my questions, found at the end of this page, or you can chew on bit of your own curiosity. The challenge is not to use a search engine or LLM (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) for inspiration or understanding. Talk to people (on a device is fine!), look at the world, or just sit and, you know, wonder.

TIMELINE + COMPENSATION
Final decisions will be made in Spring 2026. All selected authors receive a $50 prize to say thank you for sharing their wonder.
RELEASE + EVENT
In late summer, we will hold a community event exhibiting the illustrations, releasing the book, and inviting contributors to share their writing.

Tim Greenup is a local poet and poetry editor. He will edit and curate the submissions for Wonder Killer: the Book. He has worked on multiple literary journals, and has most recently restarted the literary and art journal, Legends, at Spokane Community College, serving as faculty advisor and managing editor.
